And so the reactive assault on liberty begins...
According to the Times Online, Body Scanners (as used to detect illegal immigrants in a heavy-goods lorry near you!) are going to be fitted to the London Underground. The great thing about these devices is that under their scrutiny everyone appears semi-naked. Brilliant!
I don't think.
My mate at QinetiQ (who will provide this technology) should be pleased, since this will cost over £250 million, probably. Ching ching!
I suppose the powers that be will appeal to our British patriotism to accept this blatant intrusion of everyone's privacy and doubtlessly many more in the days to come. And this project will be used as an excuse for the next fare rise.
And what do you think will happen if they actually catch someone carrying a bomb with one of these devices (assuming that someone is stupid enough to try).
It probably would get set off then and there. Right in the middle of a crowded station.
More realistically, all this would mean is that terrorists will just target less secure targets. Then, what? Do we have body scanners all over London? In every public venue?
I wonder how many extra anti-terrorist intelligence analysts this little project would pay for.
Next up, wave good-bye to any privacy that you have had over the phone or e-mail, courtesy of Charles Clarke!! You go, Chaz! You da man!
Bloody hell.
